Şehr-i Hüzün is the third studio album by the Turkish rock band maNga . The album was distributed by the Sony Music and GRGDN labels , produced by producer Hadi Elazzi and recorded at GRGDN Ulus Studios. During the recording work, the band Özgür Sarı, Tuluyhan Uğurlu ( piano ), Tuğrul Akyüz (effect engineering), Ali Sarıgül ( Ney ) and Emel Çölgeçen ( sound engineering ). The name of the album translates as Melancholy Hafenstadt . The album was released on April 20, 2009 and is available for sale in Turkey and Germany ( Amazon ). For the album 3 singles were released in Turkey, called Beni Benimle Bırak , Cevapsız Sorular and Dünyanın Sonuna Doğmuşum .

Music genre

The music on the album can be described as a mixture of rock , rap and electronic . The vocal range of the singer changes from song to song. For example, the singer raps in the songs Dünyanın Sonuna Doğmuşum or Evdeki Ses . In the songs Cevapsız Sorular or Beni Benimle Bırak , Ferman Akgül sings to a melodic background.

Cover

The cover shows all five band members standing in front of a raised entrance. The bars on the door suggest that this is a prison. The band name can be seen above the door, and the mythological sirens can be seen on both sides . In the foreground an animal is walking past, although it cannot be seen which one due to the blurred view. The cover was designed by Charles Richards. The booklet illustrations are by Erdem Yücel, Kaan Demircelik, Can Yilmaz and Can Dağli.

Subject

The songs are mainly about love, social grievances and loneliness. For example, the song Beni Benimle Bırak says that the protagonist in the piece wants to be alone with himself. He also describes that his soul is far removed from another person. Beni Benimle Bırak translates as Leave me alone with me . In addition to modern rock instruments, the band uses classical (piano) and Anatolian musical instruments such as a ney and saz .

Examples

The opener Gün Doğumu is a one and a half minute instrumental piece that reveals part of the content of the album through its melancholy playing style. Further instrumental pieces are Gecenin Ritmi and Şehr-i Hüzün . The latter melody is slightly reminiscent of the song Beni Benimle Bırak.

In the third track of the album, Dünyanın Sonuna Doğmuşum (in German: I was born at the end of the world ) is about the fact that the protagonist no longer has any worries and is happy, even if he cannot understand his actions because he describes, none To have brain. A music video was shot for the song, which shows a person who initially sits on the sofa and takes part in a Turkish game show and wins there.

Cevapsız Sorular is a pure love song with harmonious sounds and a sad theme. The point is that a person changes completely overnight so that nothing seems as it was before. Lovers fall apart and only realize at the end that they were never really together. In German the song is called questions without an answer .

Hepsi Bir Nefes begins with the question of what the world has given people and answers that the ground is "empty" and the sky is meaningless. In the second stanza the constantly changing society is attacked. Translated, Hepsi Bir Nefes means everything is one breath

Alişırim Gözlerimi Kapamaya is about the fact that the protagonist lives in a dream world and realizes the truth and mendacity in the world when he opens his eyes. He often asked questions to get answers and was lied to. Translated the song means I could get used to closing my eyes .

The song Evdeki Ses is a cover of a song by the hip hop group Cartel . The band is supported by Alper Aga.
