Żędowice ( German Sandowitz ) is a place in the Gmina Zawadzkie in the powiat Strzelecki in the Opole Voivodeship . The Żędowice Schulzenamt has about 2,400 inhabitants.
geography
The place is about 50 kilometers southeast of Opole and 50 kilometers northwest of Katowice , on the border with the Silesian Voivodeship . The district town of Strzelce Opolskie (German Groß Strehlitz) is about 18 kilometers away. Żędowice is located south of the Malapane River .
Neighboring places of Żędowice are in the northwest Zawadzkie and in the southeast Kielcza , with which Żędowice has grown together.
history
Żędowice was first mentioned in 1300. The development of the place, like the whole region, was shaped by the dense forests and the timber industry. There are also several iron ore deposits in the area.
In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 213 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 1015 for Poland. Sandowitz stayed with the German Empire . In 1933 there were 2,494 inhabitants. In 1939 the place had 2,692 inhabitants. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Groß Strehlitz .
In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration and was renamed Żędowice and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship . In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Strzelecki .
