Želimir Puljić (born March 7, 1947 in Kamena near Mostar , Yugoslavia , today Bosnia-Herzegovina ) is Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Zadar .

Life

Želimir Puljić attended the Diocesan High School in Dubrovnik . His study of Catholic theology he graduated in Split and Rome . In Rome he obtained his license in pastoral theology and his doctorate in psychology . On March 24, 1974, he received the sacrament of ordination in Rome . After completing his studies in Rome, between 1978 and 1980, he took on the role of prefect in the seminary of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian archdiocese of Vrhbosna and from 1985 to 1988 the post of rector there . Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Dubrovnik on December 7, 1989. He took office as Bishop of Dubrovnik on January 14, 1990. On March 15, 2010 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Zadar.

Bishop Želimir Puljić is President of the Council for Culture and Church Heritage in Croatia in the Croatian Bishops' Conference . In addition, Bishop Želimir Puljić is President of the Council for Croatian Pastoral Care at the Croatian and Bosnian-Herzegovinian Bishops' Conference .

In 2015, Croatian Archbishop Želimir Puljić proposed a referendum for the legalization of the Ustasha's fascist salute ( Za dom spremni ) within the military.
