Ʊ
Ʊ ( lower case ʊ) is a letter in the Latin writing system . While its official name is "Ypsilon" (after the Greek letter Ypsilon ), the letter looks like an upside-down omega . The letter is found in the Africa alphabet and is used in some languages such as Kabiyé for the rounded centralized almost closed back vowel . The lower case letter ʊ stands for this sound in the international phonetic alphabet .
In Greek typography, the Ʊ is a common replacement glyph for the omicron-y ligature .
In addition, the letter was sometimes used in physics as a unit symbol for the Mho ( Ohm (Ω) backwards; old name for the Siemens unit ).
