Ștefan Onisie (born November 23, 1925 in Vulcan , † July 7, 1984 ) was a Romanian football player and coach . The midfielder denied 156 games in the first Romanian league, the Divizia A . In 1953 and 1956 he won the Romanian championship with CCA Bucharest as a player, in the 1960/61 season as a coach.

Player career

Onisie began playing football with Minerul Lupeni in 1937 . In 1945 he moved to AMEF Arad , with whom he played in Divizia B in the 1946/47 season. In early 1948 he moved to ASA Bucharest , where he won his first title with the cup victories in 1948/49 and 1950 . In early 1951 he joined CA Câmpulung Moldovenesc in Divizia B and rose with the club to the House of Lords. After a third place in the 1952 season , the club was dissolved in the summer of 1953. Onisie returned to CCA Bucharest, where he was only used twice in the second half of 1953 and won the Romanian championship for the first time. He was able to repeat this success in the 1956 season as a regular player and was able to contribute the best scoring of his career with four goals. In the following years he was used less often and ended his active career in 1959.

National team

Onisie came to six missions for the Romanian national team . He made his debut on October 11, 1953 in the World Cup qualifier against Bulgaria when he was substituted on for Titus Ozon at half-time . Two weeks later he was on the starting line-up for the first time in the decisive qualifying game against Czechoslovakia . Romania lost 1-0 and Czechoslovakia went to Switzerland a year later.

After a two-year hiatus, Onisie returned to the national team in April 1956. He was on the grid in all four international matches in 1956 and played his last international match against Bulgaria on September 10, 1956.

Coaching career

After the end of his active career, Onisie worked as a football coach. In the summer of 1960 he took over the team from CCA Bucharest (later Steaua Bucharest ) in Divizia A for the first time as the successor to Gheorghe Popescu . He concluded the 1960/61 season by winning the championship. In early 1962 he was replaced by Popescu, whom he himself succeeded in the summer of 1962. After the runner-up in 1963 behind Dinamo Bucharest , he was replaced by Gheorghe Ola in March 1964 . Onisie then looked after promoted Minerul Baia Mare for a year in the Divizia, but had to relegate with his team in the summer of 1965.

In the summer of 1970 Onisie was coach of Steaua Bucharest for the third time. A year later he was replaced by Valentin Stănescu . He took over Universitatea Cluj and led the club to the UEFA Cup in the 1971/72 season . The following season he ended with his team only in the last place in the table and had to leave.
