… Farm Out! is the second studio album by the Swedish Country - Dance band Rednex . It was released on September 25, 2000.

backgrounds

After the commercially successful debut album Sex & Violins , the project split from lead singer Mary Joe . She was replaced by the musician Whippy , who from then on sang the female parts. Although he was again not an official member of the band and is only mentioned in the credits under the point "Additional Vocals", Göran Danielsson took over the male lead vocals on some of the songs, as on the previous album. Most of the other band members performed additional vocals in addition to the instruments. With Ranis , Örjan Öban Öberg , L. Teijo and Thomas Hegert , some of the main producers and songwriters of the first album were again involved in the creation of the work.

… Farm Out! appeared in four different versions. The European Standard Edition contains 15 tracks; including eleven songs and four skits . There are also two separate bonus songs on the Taiwanese edition, which can be found on the Australian version of the work in addition to another song . Compared to the Standard Edition, the official download version of the album is missing two of the skits, as well as the song The Devil Went Down to Georgia , making it the shortest version of the album.

Four singles were released from the regular edition: The Way I Mate , The Spirit of the Hawk , Hold Me for a While and Where You Gonna Go , the latter only 17 years after the album was released for unknown reasons. We're In It for the Money , included in the Taiwan and Australian editions, also received a single release in 2016 under the title Innit for the Money . The Spirit of the Hawk proved to be a great commercial success, particularly in German-speaking Europe, and was the second and third most successful song of the year 2000 in Germany and Austria , where it reached number one in each case. The Way I Mate and Hold Me for a While reaped moderate positions in the charts by comparison; the last two singles could not prove themselves in the charts internationally.

music

Most of the songs on the album are based on a mixture of the genres Country and Eurodance that is typical and characteristic of the band . Usually, pounding bass drums indicate a static beat, on which instruments such as banjos and fiddles are used, which are played lively and quickly. The songs often make use of clichés from the Wild West , which, in combination with grotesque humor and exaggerated, cartoon-like sound effects, convey a high degree of self-irony .

Particularly noticeable exceptions to the musical and atmospheric style are the two singles The Spirit of the Hawk and Hold Me for a While . While the latter is a seriously performed ballad that climbs to a dramatic climax with a chorus towards the end , the former completely dispenses with the influences of country music in favor of dominant, bombastic Indian elements, and conveys it through a recited speech by Chief Joseph an anti-war message.

Cover design

The cover shows singer Whippy taking office for the post of US President . She raises her hand in an oath in front of a wooden desk equipped with several microphones . She wears a black, low-cut dress and arm - or collar made of leather . In front of the scenery there are white pillars on which a plaque with the words “The President of the United States” and a coat of arms is shown. The band name and, next to it, the album title, are in the center of the picture, with the white lettering being modeled on a typewriter .

The cover of the Australian version adorns the band, who poses in front of a neutral, gray background. The lettering is identical to the one on all other versions.

success

Despite the huge popularity of the second single The Spirit of the Hawk could ... Farm Out! not repeat the great commercial success of the previous album. Nevertheless, it achieved moderate positions in the charts in German-speaking Europe: in Germany it reached number 18, in Austria number 34 and in Switzerland number 16. In their home country Sweden the album only made it to number 60.
