(10249) Harz is an asteroid of the main belt , which was named on May 1, 2003 after the German low mountain range Harz . It was discovered on October 17, 1960 by Cornelis Johannes van Houten , Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels at the Palomar Observatory ( IAU code 675) in California .
