(11578) Cimabue is an asteroid of the main belt discovered on March 4, 1994 by the Italian amateur astronomer Vincenzo Silvano Casulli at the Osservatorio Colleverde di Guidonia ( IAU code 596).
It was named in honor of the Florentine painter and mosaic artist Cimabue (1240–1302), who was one of the first in the early Renaissance to break with the formalism of Byzantine art and strive for a more lively representation of people and objects.
