(12022) Hilbert is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 15 December 1996 by the Italian-American astronomer Paul G. Comba on Observatory Prescott ( IAU code 684) in Arizona was discovered.

The asteroid was named on January 24, 2000 after the German mathematician David Hilbert (1862–1943), who is considered one of the most important mathematicians of modern times and who initiated a critical analysis of the definitions of mathematics and mathematical proof .
