(12295) Tasso is an asteroid of the main belt , the August 2, 1991 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered.
The asteroid belongs to the Nysa group, a group of asteroids named after (44) Nysa (also called the Hertha family, after (135) Hertha ).
(12295) Tasso was named on March 6, 2004 after the Italian poet of the 16th century Torquato Tasso (1544–1595), who through his work La Gerusalemme liberata (the liberated Jerusalem , also translated into German as Gottfried von Bulljon ) , got known.
