(182) Elsa is an asteroid of the main asteroid belt that was discovered on February 7, 1878 by the Austrian astronomer Johann Palisa .

The celestial body was named in honor of the Austrian Empress Elisabeth ; Elsa is a short form of the name Elisabeth.

Elsa has an unusually long rotation period of 80 hours, which is probably caused by an accompanying body. Evaluations of light curves have shown that the asteroid is probably an elongated, irregularly shaped body.
