(2005) Hencke is an asteroid of the main belt , which the Swiss astronomers on September 2, 1973 Paul Wild , from zimmerwald observatory ( IAU code 026 ) of the University of Bern was made, discovered.

The asteroid belongs to the Eunomia family, a group named after (15) Eunomia , to which probably five percent of the asteroids in the main belt belong.

(2005) Hencke is named after the German amateur astronomer Karl Ludwig Hencke (1793–1866) (not to be confused with Johann Franz Encke (1791–1865), most recently director of the Berlin observatory).
