(2039) Payne-Gaposchkin ( 1974 CA ) is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 14 February 1974 by the Harvard College Observatory (Observatory of Harvard University in Cambridge (Massachusetts) ) at the Oak Ridge Observatory was discovered. Its discoverers were Richard Eugene McCrosky , Cheng-yuan Shao , G. Schwartz and JH Bulger , who were also supported by others.
designation
The asteroid was named after Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin (1900–1979). Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin worked from 1923 as an astronomer and from 1956 as a professor of astronomy at Harvard College. From 1962 she was an employee of the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory .
