(2340) Hathor is an asteroid from Aten type . This describes a group of asteroids whose orbits mostly run within the earth's orbit and cross it from within. It owes its name to the sky goddess Hathor from Egyptian mythology.
Hathor was discovered by Charles Kowal on October 22, 1976 .
Hathor runs on an eccentric orbit between 0.4642 AE ( perihelion ) and 1.2236 AU ( aphelion ) in 283 days around the sun . The eccentricity of the orbit is 0.45 with the orbit inclined at 5.85 ° to the ecliptic .
