(24048) Pedro Duque is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 10 October 1999 by the Catalan astronomer Jaume noun the Observatory Ametlla de Mar ( IAU code 946) from L'Ametlla de Mar in the province of Tarragona in Spain was discovered.
The asteroid is named after the Spanish astronaut Pedro Francisco Duque (* 1963), who was the first Spaniard to fly into space as an ESA mission specialist on board the STS-95 . In October 2003, he completed his second space flight during a one-week stay on the ISS as part of the Soyuz TMA-3 mission .
