(24748) Nernst is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 26, 1992 by the German astronomers Freimut Börngen and Lutz D. Schmadel at the Thuringian State Observatory Tautenburg ( IAU code 033) in Thuringia .

The asteroid is named after the German physicist and chemist Walther Nernst (1864–1941).
