(2688) Halley is an asteroid of the Main Belt . It was discovered on April 25, 1982 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station ( IAU code 688) of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County .
The asteroid was named after the English astronomer Edmond Halley (1656-1742) in 1982 on the return of the comet named after it.
