(2783) Chernyshevskij is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 14, 1974 by the Russian astronomer Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych at the Crimean Observatory in Nauchnyj ( IAU code 095).
The asteroid was named after the Russian writer , publicist , literary critic and revolutionary Nikolai Gavrilowitsch Tschernyshevsky (1828–1889), who featured in his novel What to do? draws the prototype of the perfect socialist man.
