(287) Nephthys is an asteroid of the main asteroid belt , which on 25 August 1889 by Christian Heinrich Friedrich Peters at the observatory of Clinton ( United States was discovered).
The celestial body was named after Nephthys , the goddess of the dead and birth from Egyptian mythology .
