(3001) Michelangelo is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 24 January 1982 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station ( IAU code 688) of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County was discovered.
The asteroid was named after the Italian artist Michelangelo , who as a painter , sculptor , architect and poet was one of the most important representatives of the Italian High Renaissance .
