(3124) Kansas is an asteroid of the main belt , the American US on November 3, 1981 by astronomers David J. Tholen on the on the Kitt Peak located seaward position of the Steward Observatory ( IAU code 691) of the University of Arizona has discovered.
The asteroid belongs to the Lydia family, a group of asteroids named after (110) Lydia .
The asteroid was named after the US state of Kansas , the home state of the discoverer.
