(349) Dembowska is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 9 December 1892 by Auguste Charlois in Nice was discovered.

The asteroid was named after Ercole Dembowski , an Italian astronomer with Polish ancestors who did a great job researching binary star systems .

Current measurements show a mass of (4.1 ± 0.4) × 10 18 kg and a density of 2.08 ± 0.24 g cm −3 .

The orbit of (349) Dembowska is almost circular and shows a 7: 3 resonance with Jupiter . The spectrum of this asteroid shows that (349) Dembowska has meanwhile been at least partially melted. This makes (349) Dembowska an object on which the differentiation history of asteroids through melting processes can be studied.

The albedo of (349) Dembowska is given differently depending on the study, which results in a different size of the asteroid. The most commonly stated mean diameter of 140 km seems to be too small. A current study indicates the diameter as 155.8 (+7.5 / -6.2) km. Previously, a diameter of up to 217 km was assumed.

The surface temperature fluctuates between approx. 40 K and approx. 220 K and shows clear seasonal fluctuations, while an equilibrium temperature in the range between approx. 120 and approx. 150 K is reached at a depth of only 30 to 50 cm.

(349) Dembowska can already be observed visually in small telescopes in the case of the opposition . The apparent brightness fluctuates between 11.9 mag and 9.5 mag.
