(4217) Engelhardt is a main belt asteroid discovered on January 24, 1988 by Carolyn Jean Spellmann Shoemaker from the Palomar Observatory . It has a diameter of about 9.2 kilometers and a relatively light surface with an albedo of 0.2108.

The asteroid was named after the German geologist and mineralogist Wolf von Engelhardt .
