(46) Hestia is an asteroid of the main asteroid belt discovered by Norman Robert Pogson on August 16, 1857 .
The asteroid was named after Hestia, a goddess in Greek mythology who corresponds to the Roman goddess Vesta . (4) Vesta was named after the Roman goddess .
Hestia has a diameter of 124 km. It has a dark surface with an albedo of 0.05, which is composed of silicates and carbon . It rotates on its own axis in around 21 hours.
The Hestia gap is named after this planetoid .
