(4716) Urey is an asteroid located in the Main Belt . It was discovered on October 30, 1989 by the American astronomer Schelte John Bus at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory ( IAU code 807) east of La Serena in Chile .
The asteroid was named on October 13, 2000 after the American chemist Harold C. Urey (1893–1981), who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1934 for his discovery of deuterium .
