(4951) Iwamoto is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 21 January 1990 by the Japanese astronomer Yoshikane Mizuno and Toshimasa Furuta at the observatory in Kani ( IAU code 403) in Gifu Prefecture was discovered.

In May 2007 the observing astronomers discovered that (4951) Iwamoto has a moon. This satellite, named S / 2007 (4951) 1, has a diameter of around 3.5 km and orbits Iwamoto in 118 hours.

The asteroid was named after the Japanese astronomer Masayuki Iwamoto .
