(5012) Eurymedon was founded on October 17, 1960 by C. J. and I. v. Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels discovered at the Palomar Observatory . It is assigned to the Lagrangian point L 4 .
The asteroid is named after the mythological figure Eurymedon , a warrior of the Greeks in the Trojan War .
