(5177) Hugowolf is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on January 10, 1989 by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen at the Thuringian State Observatory Tautenburg ( IAU code 033) in the Tautenburg Forest in Thuringia .

The asteroid was named after the Austrian- Slovenian composer and music critic Hugo Wolf (1860–1903).
