(5370) Taranis is an asteroid of the Cupid type that was discovered by the French astronomer Alain Maury at the Palomar Observatory ( IAU code 675) on September 2, 1986 . It is one of the rare asteroids that has a 2: 1 orbital resonance with Jupiter .

The asteroid is named after the Celtic god of thunder, Taranis .
