(6208) Wakata is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 3 December 1988 by the Japanese astronomer Kin EnDate and Kazuo Watanabe at Kitami Observatory ( IAU code 400) in Hokkaido was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the Japanese astronaut Kōichi Wakata .
