(6777) Balakirev is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 26 September 1989 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory ( IAU code was discovered 809).

The asteroid was named after the Russian composer , pianist and conductor Mili Alexejewitsch Balakirew (1837–1910), next to Michail Glinka one of the pioneers of national Russian music.
