(8209) Toscanelli is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on February 28, 1995 by the Italian astronomers Piero Sicoli and Pierangelo Ghezzi at the Osservatorio Astronomico Sormano ( IAU code 587) in Sormano .
The asteroid was named on August 6, 2009 after the Italian mathematician , astronomer and cartographer Paolo dal Pozzo Toscanelli (1397–1482).
