(8525) Nielsabel is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 2 September 1992 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory ( IAU code was discovered 809).

The asteroid was named after the Norwegian mathematician Niels Henrik Abel (1802–1829), an important co-founder of group theory .
