(8853) Gerdlehmann is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on April 9, 1991 by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen at the Thuringian state observatory in Tautenburg ( IAU code 033) in Thuringia .
The asteroid was named on December 8, 1998 after the German amateur astronomer Gerhard Lehmann (* 1960) who, together with Jens Kandler , evaluated the photo plates made at the Drebach observatory in Saxony .
