(8935) Beccaria is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on January 11, 1997 by the Italian amateur astronomers Piero Sicoli and Marco Cavagna at the Osservatorio Astronomico Sormano ( observatory code 587) north of Milan near the village of Sormano in the province of Como .

The asteroid was named on May 23, 2000 after Cesare Beccaria (1738–1794), an Italian legal philosopher and criminal law reformer in the Age of Enlightenment , who is also considered the founder of the "Classical School of Criminology ".
