(9134) Encke is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 24 September 1960 by the Dutch astronomer Cornelis Johannes van Houten , Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels at Palomar Observatory ( observatory code 675) in California was discovered.

The asteroid was named on April 2, 1999 after the German astronomer Johann Franz Encke (1791–1865), who in 1837 discovered the Encke division of the Saturn ring named after him .
