(9492) Veltman is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 25 March 1971 by the Dutch astronomer Cornelis Johannes van Houten , Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels at Palomar Observatory ( observatory code 675) in California was discovered.

The asteroid is named after the Dutch physicist Martinus JG Veltman (* 1931), who, together with his colleague Gerardus' t Hooft, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1999.
