(9780) Bandersnatch is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 25 September 1994 by the Japanese astronomer Yoshisada Shimizu and Takeshi Urata at Nachi-Katsuura Observatory ( IAU code 905) in the Wakayama Prefecture was discovered.

The asteroid is named after the mysterious figure of Bandersnatch from the poem Jabberwocky , which comes from the story Alice Behind the Mirrors by British writer Lewis Carroll .
