The 1st Air Army ( Russian 1-я воздушная армия ) of the Red Army was established on May 5, 1942 on the basis of the aviation forces of the Western Front .
history
In stock the Western Front and from 24 April 1944, the 3rd Belorussian Front took in 1943 in the operations of Rzhev - Sychyovka and Rschew- Wjasma of Oryol and the Smolensk operation part, in 1944 at the Byelorussian operation and the Baltic operation and 1945 on the East Prussia operation . Initially, it consisted of five aviation divisions, each with four to five regiments, later the number was increased to 13. Specifically, these were the 201st, 202nd, 203rd, 234th and 235th fighter pilot divisions, the 204th bomb pilot division, the 213rd night bomb pilot division, the 214th, 224th, 231st, 232nd and 233rd attack aircraft divisions as well as the 215th Mixed Air Division. The Normandie-Nyemen squadron, made up of French pilots, was integrated into the 1st Air Army from March 1943. 145 members of the 1st Air Army were named Heroes of the Soviet Union , 27 more twice.
