The exhibition was opened on July 14, 1935 by the General Director of the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Julius Dorpmüller , in the presence of the Reich Transport Minister Paul von Eltz-Rübenach and the Gauleiter of Middle Franconia , Julius Streicher . It took place in the then new Nuremberg South freight yard and in the Nuremberg Transport Museum . Its collection was presented again for the anniversary. The Reichsbahn advertised the exhibition halls with: "In the newest reloading hall in Germany, near the party congress grounds ". The halls had about 1000 m of covered tracks. Half of the tracks were covered so that visitors could see the vehicles from both sides. In an extension, additional exhibition rooms were created to accommodate models and smaller exhibits and in which statistical information was presented. In addition to the reloading halls, the exhibition also took place in an outdoor area to the south and west of it. There was also an exhibition on the railway superstructure .

Historical and modern vehicles were on display, as well as the latest express train locomotives in the outdoor area. Also to be seen were:

The exhibition should have closed in September, but was extended until October 13, 1935. It had half a million visitors.

At the end of the exhibition, a large pageant took place in Nuremberg on October 13th, attended by 10,000 railway workers in historical uniforms.

After the exhibition was over, the vehicles were in the reloading hall until the big vehicle parade in December. The vehicle parade took place on December 8, 1935, exactly one day after the centenary of the first German train journey. To the west of Katzwanger Strasse, Adolf Hitler, together with Julius Dorpmüller and invited celebrities from home and abroad, accepted the vehicle parade, which ended the anniversary program.

Remarks

  1. The circulation was 40,000 copies and was sold out at the end of 1935. A second edition was then planned. The selling price to employees of the Deutsche Reichsbahn was 5 RM, in bookshops 16 RM (Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (Hg.): Official Gazette of the Reichsbahndirektion Mainz of January 4, 1936, No. 1. Announcement No. 2, p. 1; ibid. of February 15, 1936, No. 7. Announcement No. 72, p. 34). The production of the 2nd edition was delayed considerably (cf. for example: Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (ed.): Official Gazette of the Reichsbahndirektion Mainz of April 9, 1938, No. 18. Announcement No. 244, p. 102). At the end of 1938 or beginning of 1939 it then seems to have been delivered (Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (ed.): Official Gazette of the Reichsbahndirektion Mainz of December 17, 1938, No. 59. Announcement No. 777, p. 373).
