1 in 360 took place in January and February 2018 and was the San-Marinese preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon ( Portugal ). It won Jessika Muscat feat. Jenifer Brening with the song Who We Are .

format

concept

On October 17, 2017, SMRTV confirmed its participation at a specially convened press conference and announced that an online preliminary decision for the ESC will be held in 2018. For this purpose, SMRTV is working with the London company 1 in 360 Ltd. work together. This will be San Marino's first national preliminary decision at the ESC, as the artists and songs were all chosen internally beforehand. SMRTV called for applications to be submitted on the official website of the preliminary round. In addition to covers, you can also submit your own songs. In order to even make it to the internal jury evaluation, you have to have at least 100 likes on your cover or song. However, this part can also be skipped by paying € 4.99. A list of 10 participants, selected by the internal jury, will then be published in December. Up to three wildcards can be assigned. In January and February 2018, the 10 participants will then present covers to a professional jury in various recorded broadcasts, online and on SMRTV. In each broadcast, a mix of jury and televoting is used to determine who is qualified for the next broadcast. At the end of February 2018, three finalists will then present three different songs that have been determined internally. The winner, who is ultimately allowed to represent San Marino at the ESC, will be decided 50% by a jury and 50% by televoting.

Choice of contribution

Interested parties can apply on the official website until November 30, 2017. There are no restrictions whatsoever regarding the origin and genre of the artists, so that applications could be received from all over the world. In December, the 10 participants who will compete against each other in the online shows will be announced.

Fake applications

The preliminary round has to struggle again and again with fake applications, for example alleged applications of the representative of Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, Maria Olafsdottir , as well as those of the singer Margaret were wrongly published.

Moderation

On October 20, 2017, it was announced that Nick Earles and Kristin Stein would host the show.

jury

The jury currently consists of the following members:

  • Zoë Straub (Austria's interpreter at ESC 2016)
  • Vince Bugg (choreographer)
  • Neon Hitch (singer)
  • Alessandro Capicchioni (Head of Delegation San Marinos)

The jury will be 50% responsible for the outcome of each broadcast.

Attendees

On December 23, 2017, San Marino RTV published the list of participants. It consists of 11 artists. Three participants were already known in advance and received a wildcard that entitles them to participate in the preliminary round.

First wildcard

The first wildcard was awarded by the OGAE fan clubs and other fan clubs that applied to participate. The Finnish singer Emma Sandström prevailed with 47 points. In 2017 she took part in the Finnish preliminary round Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2017 and took third place.

Third wildcard

On November 26, 2017, San Marino RTV presented the details about the award of the third wildcard. This will be given to one of the San Marinese performers who have applied for the preliminary round.
