2,3-Dimethylpentane is a chemical compound from the group of aliphatic saturated hydrocarbons . It is one of the isomers of n -heptane and has a center of chirality at C-3 .

use

2,3-Dimethylpentane is used in the liquid phase oxidation of 2,4-dimethylpentane , as well as a study on the preparation and physical constants of a number of alkanes and cycloalkanes .

Chirality

2,3-Dimethylpentane is (together with 3-methylhexane ) the simplest alkane that exhibits the phenomenon of chirality . At the C-3 atom there is an asymmetric carbon atom, the four substituents of which are a methyl , an ethyl and a propyl radical , as well as an H atom.
