2-Hydroxypropyl acrylate is a chemical compound from the group of carboxylic acid esters . It is the ester made from acrylic acid and 1,2-propanediol .

properties

2-Hydroxypropyl acrylate is a flammable, difficult to ignite yellowish liquid with a pungent odor that is soluble in water. It can polymerize when heated or under UV light.

use

2-Hydroxypropyl acrylate was used in the printing industry as a reactive solvent in paints , but was no longer used because of its irritating effect. As a mixture with the isomeric 1-methyl-2-hydroxyethyl acrylate , 2-hydroxypropyl acrylate is mainly used either as a comonomer in the production of polymers (to make polymers hydrophilic or to introduce reactive hydroxyl groups into polymers) or as intermediates in the production of other chemical compounds.
