The 209th Infantry Division was a major unit of the Army of the German Wehrmacht in World War II .
Division history
The 209th Infantry Division was set up as a division of the 3rd wave of formation in August 1939 in Chemnitz in Wehrkreis IV . This was followed by submission to the 1st Army and relocation to the Westwall in the Saar Palatinate. After the invasion of Poland , the 209th Infantry Division came to central Poland in November 1939.
There she had to transfer her anti-tank department to the 170th Infantry Division . There were also changes in the 209 Artillery Regiment, which sent parts to the 164th , 167th and 168th Infantry Divisions. The service as an occupying force in Poland lasted until June 1940, when the 209th Infantry Division received new artillery units and returned to their location. The division was officially dissolved as early as July 1940. She gave her units to the 11th and 18th Panzer Divisions and Landesschützen battalions.
