Participants usually have to be in the race after the time has expired and cross the finish line on their own within a given time frame so that the distance covered can also be counted.

This type of competition was made famous from 1923 through the Le Mans 24-hour race . Apart from automobiles , 24-hour races with motorcycles and karts are also held in motorsport . There are also 24-hour races for skiers , cyclists , runners , etc. or with other time limits.
