The 27th Panzer Division of the Army was a large armored unit of the Wehrmacht in World War II . The formation of the Panzer Division began towards the end of 1942 in the area of Army Group South on the Eastern Front , but was never completed because after the German defeat in the Battle of Stalingrad with the Soviet counter-offensive Operation Uranus , the troops that were deployed were destroyed in early 1943 and went into Soviet captivity. There was no re-erection of the Division .
