The 178th Panzer Division was a major unit of the army of the German Wehrmacht during World War II .

Division history

The . 178 Division No. was established in December 1940 in Legnica in the military district situated VIII and served as a staff of spare units. In April 1942 the motorization and renaming to Division No. 178 (motorized) took place .

On April 5, 1943, the regrouping to Panzer Division No. 178 took place . After the Panzergrenadier units were surrendered to the Tatra Panzer Division , the 178th Panzer Division was disbanded in December 1944. Only the staff of the Grenadier Training Regiment 128 remained in Silesia.
