The Panzer Field Training Division Tatra , Pz.Feldausb.Div Tatra for short , later the 232nd Panzer Division was set up in August 1944 from troops from the German reserve army to crush the Slovak National Uprising .

Surname

The name "Tatra" refers to the Tatra Mountains , a part of the Carpathian Mountains that lies in the territory of Slovakia and Poland .

history

The German tank division Tatra was put together in August 1944 from various tank divisions and pioneers of the German reserve army , who were subordinate to Army Group South . It essentially consisted of Wehrmacht training units that were supposed to put down the Slovak National Uprising. This happened from October 9, 1944 under the leadership of Lieutenant General Friedrich-Wilhelm von Loeper . In February 1945 the Tatra Panzer Division was renamed and became the 232nd Panzer Division . As such, it fought against the Red Army until it was crushed on the Raab in Austria .
