3,3-Diethylpentane (also tetraethylmethane ) is a symmetrically built aliphatic hydrocarbon and a structural isomer of nonane . 3,3-Diethylpentane consists of a quaternary carbon atom to which four ethyl groups are attached.

Like all nonanes , tetraethyl methane is a colorless, flammable liquid with a gasoline-like odor. It is poorly soluble in water, but readily soluble in non-polar solvents such as benzene . The ignition temperature is 290 ° C; A mixture with air between 0.7 and 5.7% tetraethylmethane is flammable as vapor.
