action

The submarine USS Scotia is diving in the Mariana Trench . The water temperature rises suddenly and the sonar shows an unknown contact. A short time later, the submarine is pulled to the bottom of the sea by an artificial giant octopus. The occupation seems lost. The USS Lincoln warship dispatches the Argonaut 3 rescue submarine to rescue the sailors. There is a new technology on board called an oxygenator. This converts water molecules into a large air bubble. The rescue team is under the command of Lieutenant Michael Aronnax and his ex-wife Lieutenant Commander Lucille Conciel.

They discover the USS Scotia at a depth of around 30,000 feet , but problems arise when docking. The oxygen levels on board the Argonaut 3 are falling rapidly and the entire crew is passed out. When they wake up, they are all aboard a completely unknown giant submarine called the Nautilus, designed for several thousand people. Then the captain named Captain Nemo introduces himself to them and declares them prisoners. He discovered the legendary Atlantis sunk in the sea. To bring it back to life, he needs the oxygenator. He tries to persuade everyone to switch sides, but that is out of the question. The entire crew of the Argonaut 3 is brainwashed, but Aronnax escapes and rescues his people just in time.

In the meantime, Nemo has destroyed a US Navy submarine by his giant octopuses. Aronnax discovers the USS Scotia nuclear missiles aboard the Nautilus. To protect himself and Atlantis, Nemo wants to use these missiles to destroy the entire US Navy fleet on the ocean surface. Aronnax and his crew escape into the Argonaut 3 and go to the USS Scotia. They use the oxygenator so that the water in it is completely converted into oxygen. Most of the crew is saved. Aronnax sends the unmanned Argonaut 3 towards Nautilus. In the collision, the Nautilus explodes and Captain Nemo is killed.

The USS Scotia rises again towards the surface when Conciel, who was able to save all of Nemo's plans and records, passionately kisses her ex-husband Aronnax.

criticism

"The well-deserved B-Action veteran Lorenzo Lamas (" Renegade ") has now also hired at The Asylum and works as an underwater researcher with a license to shoot in a simple, but effective, low-budget version of the Jules-Verne- Classic. A computer-animated monster octopus and the sunken Atlantis spread moderate, fantastic flair in an otherwise largely action thread shaped by walks through boiler rooms and marital conflicts of the heroes involved. For SF viewers. "
